When travelling in a foreign country there are a few tips and things you should know and do before you go. You may think that this could be a little over the top planning, but a little planning could save a you a lot of time and hassel while your away, and get you ready for that "i won't happen to me" moment

1 - Check the Foreign & Commonwealth Office- FCO travel advice online at
2 - Get travel insurance and check that the cover is appropriate for the activities that you are doing
3 - Get a good guide book, and get to know your destination - find out local laws and customs
4 - Ensure that you have a valid passport and necessary visas
5 - Check what vaccinations you need a least 6 weeks prior to travel

7 - Make sure whoever you book throught is ABTA or ATOL protected
8 - Make copies of your passport, insurance policy plus 24-hour emergency number and ticket details - leave copies with you family and friends
9 - Take enough money on your trip and some back-up funds - travellers cheques, sterling or US dollars
10 - Leave a copy of your itinerary and a way of contacting you such as web based e-mail (Hotmail - Yahoo!), with family and friends, and inform them of any changes of your itinerary as soon as possible.
