Basic First Aid Information for travellers

This guide contains advice for anyone on basic first aid procedures which can be used in an emergency.
It's not in any way a substitute for formal or professional training.

Assess the general condition of the casualty and seek expert help.

Remember the ABC of first aid >

Airway - check it is clear
Breathing - check for breathing
Circulation - check for pulse

Do the following >

Cover any wound and apply firm pressure
Provide warmth
Give nothing to eat or drink - especially alcohol

Contact the rescue service immediately and give them the following details >

Location of where you are - map coordinates

Number of people injured and type of injury.

Establish the accident facts, names and addresses of people involved and of witnesses.

Note the place, time and circumstances of the accident, terrain and visibility.

Take photographs if possible.

Remember markings and signs.

Report as soon as possible.
